Lakers guard Danny Green, the Lakers' player representative in the players' union, was recently interviewed about the negotiations between the players' union and the NBA league regarding a rematch.
Did you participate in the conference call organized by Kyrie Irving?
Green."Nope. I tried to get into that meeting, but I couldn't. I didn't know there was a meeting on Friday, I thought it was Saturday. So I'm not sure. If there was a meeting on Friday, I was invited and then couldn't connect. But I was told it was Saturday and that there was a conference call today (note: the interview is Friday local time)?"
Sure. ESPN, Yahoo and The Athletic all reported details of many of the players participating in the conference call.
Green."I remember there was a conference call and I tried to connect. But I wasn't on that conference because I was told it was Saturday. I didn't know. I didn't participate."
How did the players' union conduct the vote? Is only the Executive Committee members involved? Or do player reps get a vote too?
Green."Most of the player representatives vote on behalf of the team. The team had one player representative and a second representative. Most of the teams that voted, if I had to think back, I'm pretty sure it was a unanimous vote. I don't think anyone voted against it (for the rematch). I could also be misremembering, but when I was at that meeting, it appeared that all voted yes."
So to clarify, the player reps did vote?
Green or Greene (name): "Yes, I'm sure others voted as well. But we all voted as player representatives and as a team. They consulted with us individually and with the team. We have different conference calls."
What do you think will happen with the players' union negotiations?
Green:"It's becoming more consistent and more common. The negotiations are going in the right direction. As long as we keep communicating and continue, it's going to get better and better."
How optimistic are you that the season will resume as planned?
Green:"Right now they're reporting that everything is set in Orlando. So I haven't heard anything different."
